The Weimar Weihnachtsmarkt
by Heidi Obermeyer
A few weeks ago I went on a little adventure to see Goethe’s house in Weimar, Germany. For those of you unfamiliar with Goethe, familiarize yo’selves! He’s a fantastic old German writer who dabbled in all kinds of stuff. He’s sort of a hybrid of Shakespeare and Da Vinci, but better, because he was German. He wrote the Sorrows of Young Werther, Elective Affinities and Faust, just to name a few of his better-known titles. Really, this post is more about showing you some pictures from the market there than to talk about Goethe, but I felt it necessary to mention him. Also important is that we ran around the whole time saying, “And that’s where Goethe bought his shoes on sale!” or “And that’s where Goethe did his banking!” or “There’s Goethe’s Aldi!” (Aldi is a discount supermarket chain in Germany) because lots of places that Goethe once visited have plaques commemorating the occasion. We got some laughs out of it. Anyway, Weihnachtsmarkt pictures!
