The Glyptothek has what is easily one of the best cafés I have ever been to. Hidden away in the courtyard of the Glyptothek (a classics museum at Königsplatz in Munich) it provides a zen-like oasis very close to the city center. There’s a 3 euro café “membership” fee (although if you’re visiting the museum anyway it’s included in your ticket price) per annuem (and they go by calendar year, so you’re best off buying your pass in January). If you’re just in Munich for the day, you can purchase a day pass for 1 euro (and on Sundays you get the best deal yet, with 1 euro combined entrance to the museum and café!) and save yourself the trouble of an annual card. Emily and I went on Sunday, which in my opinion is the best day to hit up museums in Munich- the 1 euro entry fee at state-run museums takes the pressure off of you to enjoy your “x” euro spent on fine arts and culture. With 1 euro entry, if you don’t like the collection, no harm done! You can peace out and grab kaffee and kuchen somewhere awesome- maybe even at the Gylptothek. 🙂
