Making Lately: A Spiced Chai Quilt
by Heidi Obermeyer
So if you haven’t talked to me lately, I have some news.
I sew now. Like, on the reg. Isn’t that exciting? Is that what you were expecting me to say? I mean, I guess I have been sewing for a few years, but it is only recently that I finished my first big-huge-cool project- this quilt! From start to finish it was all me, baby. The pattern is Spiced Chai, and it is awesome. I’m bummed I didn’t get more photos of the back- it is the same as the back of the quilt I made with my mom, a very nice deep grey.
This quilt is in its new home now, and I am wrapping up another for my place. There is something so satisfying about cutting, piecing, and sewing after a day on the computer. Sometimes it just feels good to create something.
This is gorgeous! Great job! I have always wanted to learn how to sew, but never have.
Lovely color choices and pattern. Great work!
Love this quilt and pattern! I also love to cut, piece and sew after a long day on the computer! It relieves stress and feeds the creative side of my soul 🙂
I LOVE this! I’m continually impressed by your sewing and quilting! Question: I have a friend who quilts, but she says she has to outsource the actual quilting (once the batting and backing has been added) because her sewing machine isn’t big enough–how do you handle that? I’d love to get into quilting (did a bit when I was younger) but am afraid of running into a similar roadblock!
Same situation here unfortunately. An entry level sewing machine doesn’t have the space to roll up the quilt. Alternatives are hand tying/quilting. Google hand tying- it looks different. It’s actually really nice to get that part done professionally. My mom has a much fancier sewing machine and hers might be capable of straight line quilting. The difference in quality is just very noticeable.
On my blue quilt I hand stitched long lines following all the triangles. I have been very happy with that but it is a different look.
